While fans are still waiting to hear if Borderlands 4 will ever be confirmed, one thing worth remembering is how Maurice’s Black Market Vending Machine worked back in Borderlands 3. It was a favourite among players, partly because it turned into a weekly hide-and-seek challenge, and partly because it offered some of the best loot without grinding the same bosses over and over. In Borderlands 3, Maurice – the friendly Saurian – ran this special vendor, hiding it in a new spot every week.

You never knew which planet it might be on, and that included DLC locations too. The inventory was always stacked with Legendary gear, making it a solid way to grab high-level weapons fast. If Borderlands 4 does become a reality, it’s easy to imagine Borderlands 4 Cash and similar features being part of the hunt again.

In the previous game, the machine’s location changed every Thursday at 9am PT, lining up with Gearbox’s weekly hotfixes. This turned into a bit of a community ritual. Players would jump in, scout every corner of the map, and whoever found it first usually posted the spot on Reddit or Twitter. It wasn’t always easy – Maurice’s machine could be tucked away in some odd little corner you’d never think to check. But that was part of the fun. Once you tracked it down, you could buy whatever Legendary items were on offer, all scaled to your level. For new players, it was a shortcut to decent gear. For veterans, it was a chance to chase perfect rolls and anointments without endless farming.

What made this feature stand out was the mix of exploration and reward. You weren’t just following a checklist; you were part of a shared hunt. People swapped tips, posted screenshots, and even ran in groups to cover more ground. The fact that the stock changed weekly meant you always had a reason to check back in.

Some weeks it might be a weapon you’ve been after for ages; other weeks, something you didn’t know you needed until you tried it. Either way, it kept the game feeling fresh long after the main story was done.

Looking ahead, it’s hard not to imagine Maurice’s Black Market making a comeback in a new Borderlands game. It’s the sort of feature that keeps players logging in and talking to each other. Gearbox could even push it further – maybe adding small clues or riddles that hint at the location, or offering unique cosmetics you can’t get anywhere else. That would make the hunt more like a mini-event each week rather than just a map sweep. If and when Borderlands 4 is finally announced, you can bet the community will be ready to dive back in, chasing loot and swapping discoveries, especially if u4gm Borderlands 4 Items become part of the mix.
